I miss this kind of art style. Is the only reason for it's abandonment that it takes longer time then modern ones? At least with this art style you could get anime that is over 12 episodes. Nowadays animation costs are so high that most anime only get 12 episodes and then need to wait if successful enough. This approach make it so many anime dies before they can get popular and second, if a continuation of the anime is approved it most likely will have a worse quality or be a bit of a mismatch with the previous 12 episodes with there being a break in between and maybe different animators working on it and so on.
I much rather they take their time and releasing longer series which make it so they don't have to cut out a lot and give them the time to tell the story.
What I hope for is that the anime industry gets the same treatment as the game industry where indie studious with a lot smaller budget make their own anime. They would probably revert to this kind of art style to save costs. It don't need to start with an anime and could start with short anime movies, slowly growing.
Games and anime isn't very different, games are just interactive pieces of media while anime isn't, except when feedback is sent to the studio and they listen.
I think now with A.I, that it can help people create their stories without the huge costs to recruit a full team.
